Crisis Support Protocol
Where to find help right now, what LumenUs publishes for people in crisis, and the honest limits of what we are. Written plainly.
If you are in danger right now
Please contact help directly.
- Call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
- Text HOME to 741741 for the Crisis Text Line.
- Call 911 for an immediate emergency.
These services are free, confidential, and available around the clock. They are staffed by people who can help.
What LumenUs is not
LumenUs is not an emergency service. It is not a crisis line, a crisis-counseling service, or a substitute for professional help. Our support is clinically-informed. It is not clinical-grade, and it is not treatment.
LumenUs does not monitor anyone, does not screen for or detect crisis, and does not include any automated safety-detection feature or AI conversation feature. Nothing here watches for warning signs or predicts a crisis, and you must not rely on this website to notice or respond to an emergency. We cannot come to you, call for help on your behalf, or take action in the physical world.
What we commit to
- Crisis resources are always free and never gated. They are never placed behind a login, a paywall, a subscription, or a tier.
- Crisis resources are one step away. They are linked from the footer of every page on this website.
- Difficult subjects carry the resources with them. Where our Library covers a loss that may involve suicide or overdose, the page presents crisis resources alongside the content.
- We will never present software as a substitute for human help in a crisis.
