Accessibility
Accessibility is not a feature here. It is a duty. People reach LumenUs at the hardest moments of their lives, often exhausted, distracted, or in shock. The product has to work for them anyway.

Our commitment
We are building LumenUs to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as our target standard. Accessibility is part of how we define "done," and a screen that a grieving person with a disability cannot use is not finished. We are not fully there yet. We are honest about where we fall short (see Known limitations) and we are actively closing the gap.
What this means in practice
These are the accessibility goals we build toward. Where a capability is noted as "where implemented," it is in place on some but not yet all of the product. The Known Limitations section below records where these goals are not yet fully met.
- Perceivable. We aim for sufficient color contrast, text alternatives for meaningful images, content that does not rely on color alone, and support for text resizing. Contrast remediation is in progress on a subset of screens.
- Operable. We aim for keyboard operability, visible focus, skip-to-content navigation, no time-pressure traps, and motion that respects reduced-motion preferences. Keyboard and focus handling is complete on core flows and in progress on some interactive components (see Known limitations).
- Understandable. Plain language, predictable navigation, clear labels, and gentle, specific error messages.
- Robust. Where implemented, semantic structure and ARIA are used so assistive technologies, including screen readers, can interpret the product. Screen-reader labeling on certain custom controls is still in progress.
Crisis access
Crisis resources must be reachable by everyone, including people using assistive technology, and are designed to meet contrast and keyboard-operability requirements. Crisis access is never gated.
Ongoing work
Accessibility is continuous. We review accessibility as part of our build process, we treat accessibility defects as defects rather than enhancements, and we are committed to testing with assistive technologies, including screen readers and keyboard-only navigation. We review accessibility on a recurring cadence of at least [CADENCE TO SET, e.g. quarterly], and after significant product changes. The most recent review date is stated at the top of this page.
Known limitations
We are honest about gaps. As of the most recent review date above, LumenUs is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA, meaning some parts of the product do not yet fully meet the standard. Meaningful work remains, and we are actively prioritizing it. We do not claim full conformance, and we will update this statement as conformance improves.
Known areas of work include keyboard and focus handling on some interactive components, screen-reader labeling on certain custom controls, and color-contrast remediation on a subset of screens. We maintain a more detailed internal remediation plan and update the list above as gaps close.

If you encounter any barrier using LumenUs, or you need information in a different format, contact us and we will work with you and prioritize a fix. You should not have to struggle with the tool while you are already carrying so much.
