Forged from darkness. Built with purpose.
We are on a mission to bring light
to the darkest moments of life.
Our founding story
LumenUs was born from a deeply personal and lived experience.
On the evening of my first wedding anniversary, I lost my husband, Jaryd, in a car accident in Napa.
My life as I knew it was gone in the blink of an eye.
I was in shock, devastated, and completely lost. As I was being discharged from the hospital, I remember a kind chaplain handing me a stack of papers. A bunch of things to read. A long list of things I had to do.
“Prepare yourself for what is coming. You are going to have to make a lot of decisions in the coming days, weeks, and months.”
From celebrating our love to searching for a cremation center, organizing a funeral, moving out of our home, closing bank accounts. And that was only the beginning of a long path into the unknown.
I called Social Security only to find out Jaryd had not contributed long enough for me to qualify for any benefits, because he had died too young.
I went back to work while still carrying bruises across both my body and my mind. I felt distant and incapable of doing even the most simple tasks for a very long time.
I walked into a therapist's room after months of waiting, despite having a good health insurance plan, only to find out she was an intern with no background in grief whatsoever.
That is when I knew I had to build my own path of survival, and find my way back to myself. I had to take the lead in educating myself about what I was experiencing and how to process it all. And often, in educating those around me too. Breaking the cultural taboos. Building a new norm. Establishing what a healthy way to grieve could even look like.
Today I am grateful that what once felt like doing the hard while carrying the impossible has become the foundation for something so bright.
LumenUs was born from this deeply personal, precious experience.
The missing bereavement platform built for the long arc after loss.
A guiding light that empowers people to navigate what comes after the loss of a loved one with clarity, compassion, and a path forward.

What we believe
We lead with empathy, not efficiency.
Every screen, every word, every interaction is designed for someone on their worst day.
We carry what we can.
The paperwork, the logistics, the administrative mountain. That weight should not fall on someone who is already carrying everything they can hold.
We believe in the light.
The name is not accidental. Even in the darkest chapter, there is a path forward.
We protect what is sacred.
People trust us with their most sensitive documents and their most vulnerable moments. That trust is the foundation.
We build for the person, not the persona.
No two losses are the same. Our product adapts to real people in real situations.
